In 1966 UFW marchers led by Cesar Chavez, and again in August 2022, carried the banner of Our Lady of Guadalupe for the entire 355 miles from Delano and rallied at Southside Park across the street prior to reaching the Capitol.

Founded in 1850 as the first African Methodist
Episcopal congregation in the western United State, St. Andrews AME assumed a prominent political role in pursuit of political, economic and social power for Sacramento's Black community.
